These awards are to acknowledge those who have been involved in the restoration and maintenance of heritage buildings and areas in the Central Okanagan. The deadline for nominations is Friday, February 8, 2008.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The awards will be made as part of Heritage Week at the 26th Annual General Meeting of the Heritage Society on Thursday, February 21, 2008 at the Benvoulin Heritage Church. This year’s Heritage Week theme will be “Taking Care of Business: Heritage of Trade and Commerce ”.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Society offers awards in six categories:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;• Distinguished Community Service - Given to a person or persons in recognition of their service to the community in the heritage field.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;• Restoration of the exterior of a building currently in non-residential use.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;• Restoration of the exterior of a building currently in residential use.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;• Continued preservation of a building - Given to a building to recognize the high quality of its exterior preservation and maintenance over the years, in keeping with its original design and structure.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;• Construction of a new building compatible with its heritage surroundings.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;• Restoration or preservation of a neighbourhood or area.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There will be no formal printed nomination forms this year. Over 150 pieces will be on display at historic Benvoulin Heritage Church and Reid Hall, as well as a slide show of her other needle art works in other countries.  Local crafting groups will also be hosting demonstrations and presenting their work.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Anne de Beer was born in the Netherlands and was a nurse during the second world war.  She married after the war and had 3 children.  After her children grew up, Anne started her needle art career. She produced over 250 pieces of fine needle art.  Her oldest daughter Miriam of Kelowna is showing more than 150 pieces of her work. Anne loved the Okanagan and would have loved to help fundraise for the heritage society. She was an aficionado of real antiques and fine arts.  At the needlecraft show there will also be a slide show of all her works that are currently shown in other countries.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Opening night is on Friday October 19th from 7pm to 9pm.  Tickets for the opening night are $10 and include wine and nibblies, and can be purchased in advance from the COHS office - phone 861 7188 or email at &lt;a href="mailto:cohs@telus.net"&gt;cohs@telus.net&lt;/a&gt;.  General admission tickets are available at the door on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st October from 10am to 4pm for $5.  All funds raised from the sale of tickets goes to the restoration efforts of COHS. With the Heritage and Fall Harvest theme woven throughout the program – this will not be your typical fund-raising dinner. Mike Roberts will be hosting the evening, ensuring a fun and informative night will be had by all.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Society looks forward to you joining us for this gala celebration, and is extending a special invitation to be the first to purchase a table of eight tickets for $800 or $100 per ticket. The presentation made by John Raybould titled "About the House" was a lively and nostalgic overview of various aspects of domestic social and cultural history from a century ago, and brought back many memories for those that attended the AGM. People could view and handle the artifacts that John and his wife Heather brought along, which really added to the fun of the evening.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Arial;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Arial;"&gt;Presentations were also made to the winners of the 2006 Heritage Awards. This year’s Heritage Week theme will be “Vernacular Heritage - Architecture Without Architects”.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The Society offers awards in six categories: &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;• Distinguished Community Service - Given to a person or persons in recognition of their service to the community in the heritage field.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;• Restoration of the exterior of a building currently in non-residential use.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;• Restoration of the exterior of a building currently in residential use.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;• Continued preservation of a building - Given to a building to recognize the high quality of its exterior preservation and maintenance over the years, in keeping with its original design and structure.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;• Construction of a new building compatible with its heritage surroundings.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;• Restoration or preservation of a neighbourhood or area.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Printed nomination forms are available from local government offices, from most museums, from all regional library branches, and from the Society office in the Milkshed at Guisichan Park, 1060 Cameron Avenue. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Please submit nominations by February 2nd, 2007 to the COHS Office, 1060 Cameron Ave., Kelowna, BC, V1Y 8V3. Please include photographs, if possible. Nominations also may be faxed to the office at 868-0391.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you prefer, please feel free to copy the following headings, then paste them into an email or document.
