A Successful AGM

There was a good turnout at this year's AGM. The presentation made by John Raybould titled "About the House" was a lively and nostalgic overview of various aspects of domestic social and cultural history from a century ago, and brought back many memories for those that attended the AGM. People could view and handle the artifacts that John and his wife Heather brought along, which really added to the fun of the evening.

Presentations were also made to the winners of the 2006 Heritage Awards. The winners for this year were:

  • Distinguished Community Service - Bill Scutt
  • Restoration of the exterior of a building currently in non-residential use - 510 Bernard Avenue
  • Restoration of the exterior of a building currently in residential use - Harvey House, 1715 Sutherland Avenue, Daniel and Cheryl Spelliscy
  • Continued preservation of a building - Belgo House, 1590 Belgo Road, William Jurome
  • Construction of a new building compatible with its heritage surroundings - 569 - 605 Elliott Avenue, Developers/Builders - Dwayne Parker, Ron Egert, Elmer Eidse
  • Restoration or preservation of a neighbourhood or area - 1900 Block Abbott Street (west side), Ms. V. Presley, Mr. and Mrs. B. Hobbs, Alice Cargo, Ed and Chris Allan, Ms. J. Mergens.

The Executive and Directors were also elected. The 2007 Board is made up of:

  • President - Gretchen Aird
  • Vice President - Lorainne McLarty
  • Past President - Sandy Welbourn
  • Secretary - Vacant
  • Acting Treasurer - Barb Charmin (to May 2007)
  • Treasurer - Don Pettman (May 2007)
  • Directors - Gwen Campbell, Don Knox (October 2007), John Pendray, Kristal Polley, David Hobson, Glenn McAleese.

At the reception that followed, the 25th Anniversary cake was cut, tea and home made goodies were enjoyed and people caught up with old friends. A lovely evening was had by all!!
